College Network Survey

Networking is the single most powerful marketing tactic to accelerate and sustain success for any individual or Organization.

This is only the way which is keeping the people connected together even they are at different part of the word. We can get the world’s every news and updates sitting at the corner of our home. This is made possible by the help of Networking and communication.

Here is described how our collage are connected to the network from the regional office to the collage server and to the different department too.

This subject provides an introduction to Computer Networks and covers fundamental topics like data, information to the definition of Communication and Computer Networks. The main objective of data communication and networking is to enable seamless exchange of data between any two points in the world. This exchange of data takes place over a computer network.

The main objective of the proposed survey is to make student understand how collage is connected to the single network. This survey also help students to know the connection made to maintain the collage connected in single network. We all know the theoretical part very well but when we stand in the field, the experience gets different. Hence the objective of this survey is also to make the students to know the connection, connection devices used, materials used, spaces required etc.




The collage is using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port.

A port is always associated with an IP address of a host and the protocol type of the communication, and thus completes the destination or origination address of a communication session.

 Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), specify a source and destination port number in their headers.

 A process associates its input or output channels, via an Internet socket, with a transport protocol, a port number, and an IP address. This process is known as binding, and enables sending and receiving data via the network.

TCP connection is identified by a tuple consisting of the local address, the local port, the remote address, and the remote port.


A network switch (also called switching hub, bridging hub, officially MAC bridge) is a computer networking device that connects devices together on a computer network, by using packet switching to receive, process and forward data to the destination device.

It helps in forwarding the data only to one or multiple devices that need to receive it, rather than broadcasting the same data out of each of its ports.

Multiple data cables are plugged into a switch to enable communication between different networked devices.

Each networked device connected to a switch can be identified using a MAC address, allowing the switch to regulate the flow of traffic which maximizes the security and efficiency of the network.

Each switch contains 24 ports which means 24 PC can be connected to each switch. Hence number of switch depends upon the number of computer system we are using. 



The collage is using TCP/IP and UDP protocol  (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) (User Datagram Protocol).

TCP is connection oriented i.e. once the connection is established, data can be sent bidirectional.

UDP is a simpler, connectionless Internet protocol. Multiple messages are sent as packets in chunks using UDP.

In TCP, there is absolute guarantee that the data transferred remains intact and arrives in the same order in which it was sent whereas in UDP it’s not.

TCP is faster and have 20 bytes header size and UDP is having 8 bytes.

TCP is a heavy weight connection requiring three packets for a socket connection and handles congestion control and reliability. UDP is a lightweight transport layer designed atop an IP. There are no tracking connections or ordering of messages.



As we all know that all the laboratory and other department are connected with the cable to the network but the faculty chambers and environment of department is also surrounded by the Wi-Fi networks.

All the faculty chambers are facilitate with Wi-Fi connection not the cable connection.

This Wi-Fi connection is established through router which is connect to server switch.

This is made by connecting the router to the server switch which will leave a wi-fi network. These networks are able to connect to the computer systems, and gadgets and hence all the students, faculty  can access the network when they are within the range.
